It’s time to stop hibernating and banish those winter blues! During the winter months our skin and bodies take a beating from the cold winter weather. So why not treat yourself this weekend and give your body a pamper session without breaking the bank! You’ll certainly feel fresher more alive and ready to greet the spring with all its warmth and colour.
Here are some great homemade beauty recipe’s you can try to get you invigorated and feeling alive again.
During the winter months our skin can become dry from the exposure to the cold weather especially if it’s windy. Many offices now also have heating through an air conditioning system which again can dry out our skin. If you feel that your skin needs a little tlc why not mix your own face mask to leave your skin feeling brighter and fresher. Why not try this one where the Vitamin C in the strawberries will help lighten dark spots, the lemon exfoliates your skin and the banana will help to condition. You’ll need:
Remove the stems from the strawberries and chop up. Crush the chopped strawberries in a small bowl with the banana, add the juice of one lemon. Mix the ingredients and then apply to your face, avoiding the eyes. Leave on for 15 minutes, or until the mask starts to feel dry. Rinse off with cool water.
Our hands and fingers also suffer through the winter again being exposed to the harsh elements. If you haven’t had the time or money to treat yourself to a manicure here’s a little remedy you can try at home to help soothe your hands. Place a sliced lemon and half a sliced cucumber into a bowl of cool water and soak your hands for 10 minutes. The lemon will help to bleach stained nails and the cucumber will help soothe dry skin. Once you have dried your hands why not paint your nails with a bright spring colour.
Our hair often dries out during winter, so it’s no surprise that you may need to give it a little more attention than normal. This simple trick will work wonders to bring its natural shine and bounce and what’s more all you need to do is go to your kitchen cupboard and find the olive oil bottle! Yes that really is it! Shampoo your hair as normal, towel dry and then massage in 2 to 4 tablespoons of olive oil working through to the roots. Wrap your hair in a towel, leave for 10 minutes and then rinse off thoroughly. Simple, cheap and very effective!
Our feet don’t often see the light of day during winter but that’s no reason to ignore them. If your feet feel rough and need a little rejuvenating then why not try this little home remedy. Epsom salts help to relax tired feet and the brown sugar will help to exfoliate the skin. Simply soak your feet in a bowl of warm water with some Epsom salts for 15 minutes, then mix in a bowl 2 parts olive oil to 3 parts brown sugar and rub into your feet. Rinse thoroughly and then apply your favourite moisturiser.
